GI Products

What's GI?

GI refers to galvanized iron. Galvanization or galvanizing is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent rusting. Galvanized iron refers to ordinary carbon construction steel that has been galvanized to effectively prevent corrosion and rust of the steel and extend the service life of the steel. Galvanizing is divided into electro-galvanizing and hot-dip galvanizing.

Electro-galvanizing is also called cold galvanizing. It uses electrolysis equipment to degrease, pickle, and then put the pipe fittings into a solution composed of zinc salts and connect the negative electrode of the electrolysis equipment. Place a zinc plate opposite the pipe fittings and connect it to the electrolytic When the positive pole of the equipment is powered on, a layer of zinc will be deposited on the pipe fittings by using the directional movement of current from the positive pole to the negative pole. Cold-plated pipe fittings are processed first and then galvanized.

Production Processing

The production process of hot-dip galvanized sheets mainly includes: original sheet preparation → pre-plating treatment → hot-dip plating → post-plating treatment → finished product inspection, etc. According to custom, the hot-dip galvanizing process is divided into two categories: off-line annealing and in-line annealing based on different pre-plating treatment methods.

Generally, GI is used in building exterior walls, such as glass curtain walls, marble curtain walls, aluminum curtain walls as columns and stress-bearing materials, or outdoor telecommunications towers, highways, and other open-air buildings.

Select and strictly control welding process parameters. The evaluation of the spot welding quality of galvanized steel sheets refers to the strength of a single solder joint, the level of corrosion resistance, and more importantly, the qualification rate of the solder joints under mass production conditions. There are many factors that affect welding quality in actual production, such as network voltage fluctuations, shunts, electrode wear, and assembly quality. Since the range of galvanized steel plate welding parameters is inherently small, it needs to be strictly controlled and needs to be adjusted when the plate thickness changes. Use reasonable electrode materials, electrode shapes and sizes, and repair or replace electrodes in time. Good cooling of the electrodes is very important to ensure welding quality.

GI Price

GI sheet is short for galvanized iron sheet, including plain and corrugated GI sheet, hot-dipped, and electro-galvanized iron sheet. The GI sheet thickness is available from 0.12mm to 4 mm. The latest FOB galvanized sheet price from Wanzhi Steel ranges from 700 to 1,300 USD per ton. Of course, its price will be different on the design, thickness, order quantity, zinc layer thickness, and galvanizing process. For example, GI plain sheet price will be lower than that of the same corrugated sheets. Besides, the more you order, the lower the price.
